See below.: Generally, for women, bacteria from feces (particularly e. Coli) gets in contact with the urethral opening.  The bacteria are then able to enter the urethra and travel the relatively short distance (compared with men) to the bladder where it can cause infection - a uti. One of the best prevention strategies besides daily hygiene is to wipe front to back, not vice versa.

Colonization: Your doctor is talking about colonization, which means that the E. coli bacteria is now living in your urinary tract. It can cause recurrent infections. But don't use prophylactic antibiotics. They don't prevent many infections and just lead to antibiotic resistance.

can bladder infection cause this? or does it mean my kidney is infected also? test came back pos for ecoli.

UTI: I don't know how you can tell if pain is originating in your ureters. If you have flank pain (back pain just below the ribcage), you could have kidney as well as bladder infection. E. coli is the most common cause of all UTI in women. Tell your doctor about all symptoms and follew her treatment advice. Most people recover completely and rapidly, with or without kidney involvement. Good luck!

is ecoli and another bacteria usually a kidney or bladder infection? i had really bloody urine. i have ic so symptoms are hard to distinguish.

Yes but not always: E.Coli is common cause of UTI. Bloody urine is common but not specific for any one bacteria. After ruling out infection, older patients must make sure blood is not from cancer or another cause. See your doctor.

i have bladder and urethra inflammation after a long ecoli uti. i also now have itchy vagina. have taken canesten tablet which didn't work.please help?

: The breakdown products of bilirubin end up in the urine as do the breakdown products of many waste products. Following them is of no significance when dealing with yeast or bladder infections. They are a marker for liver metabolism that is unrelated.

i have had kidney stones removed thru a hole in my back, using the down below method and had them blasted. now i have ecoli colonized in my kidneys. could it have been caused from the kidney stone removal?

: No. Sometimes the stones are infected and cause infection of the kidney at tiome of surgery. This can be treated

Yes: E coli will be destroyed by boiling the water in which they are found.  This is an effective way to render water non-infectious.
