Joint pains: It could be several things.  Arthritis, viral infection, lymes disease are a few conditions that can cause joint pains.  See a dr. And get a good clinical exam to properly diagnose you and then you can get the appropriate treatment too. Good luck.

No worries: Cracking noises in kids are very common, and very unlikely to represent anything bad. Don't worry about this.

is it possible to grow bone back to avoid having a knee or hip replacement?

Accepted Answer

No: Bone is not the problem, arthritis is caused by a loss of cartilage covering the bone.  Cartilage is that smooth shiny stuff on the end of the bone like you see on a drumstick at the joint.  We have many procedures to reproduce it in small amounts or repair it if only small areas are lost or damaged, but when there is more exposed bone than cartilage, hip or knee replacement becomes necessary.

my hip and knee bones always seem to pop. i'm a very active 21 year old female is this normal?

Probably normal: There is some evidence that ligament laxity may be associated with an increased tendency to have cracking or popping joints. The noise usually comes from the release of some gases (namely nitrogen) in the synovial (joint) fluid. 
If there is no pain or discomfort associated with these sounds, you probably need not worry.

: Leukemia or lymphoma likely manifests with diffused joint pain (polyarthralgia). If the joints are also swollen or tender, a systemic disease such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. may be the cause. Your doctor has ordered serology tests so you should be patiently waiting for the result.

: We could try to guess, but that would not be in your best interest. Without a full history, examination, labs, and vitals, it is not possible to intelligently discuss any type of diagnosis. Talk to your PCP who knows you and your history much better. Ask what next steps are, and what they are thinking.

Sort of: Running puts significant stress on the knees with repetitive microtrauma. Over the long term this can lead to arthritic damage.

Need evaluation: Pain coming from the hip can give you knee pain, so a problem in the hip joint is a possibility - but the diagnosis and treatment do require an evaluation to know for sure. Mild discomfort and arthritis or overuse pains are often managed with Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen (advil/motrin or tylenol), but your doctor can tell you what is best for you.

i got a knee corticosteroid injection 2 days ago & now the skin over my hip bone is swollen. is this normal? thanks.

Not normal: Such an injection into your knee should have no effect on your hip. If there is true swelling over the hip or pain, notify the physician who administered the injection and have your hip,knee and entire leg examined.

i have pain in my tailbone, both hip bones and both knees. don't remember injuring them in anyway. they've been hurting for 2 month now. what's wrong?

See a rheumatologist: In my opinion, symmetrical pain in multiple joints without any specific injury leads me to suggest that you see a rheumatologist.
