when do play groups become beneficial for babies?

Accepted Answer

Not so much : Playgroups are not especially useful for development or socialization for babies less than a year of age. Playgroups are for parents to get together and share their new world of parenting. They are for forging new relationships with other families that are meaningful given the context of your changing family.  Playgroups are helpful of course for stay at home moms, but dads are welcome to jump in!

Accepted Answer

Yes: Actually, a little bit of both is ideal for babies.  Letting babies play freely with their toys or even common (safe) household items is a great way for them to explore and use their imagination.  More structured play can help teach routines and can often provide great opportunities for socialization and shared experiences.

are white noise machines okay to play for an infant? what about music and other things to soothe the baby?

: Natural sounds such as rain, waves or other soothing sounds are fine. Avoid loud music and harsh brassy noice
 Establishing a bed time pattern of bath and reading a story is recommended.

Accepted Answer

No, it is not safe!: Infants should not sleep in "Baby Swings", or "Rock n' Play" by Fisher Price. 
The best way to prevent "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome" is to place infants on their back, which also encourages normal physical and motor development. They should sleep on a firm, flat surface.

when my baby (4 months) plays, she enjoys being vigorously bounced. how much movement is safe for babies at this age?

Stimulation: Babies thrive on all sorts of stimulation,not just movement, colors, music, voice, colors, mobiles,- mix it up with lots of hugs and kisses-they will not overdose, but they will laugh and smile alot.

Passive stretches: Consider physical therapy and passive stretches while discussing the possible causes of increased tone. A Pediatric Neurology evaluation may be helpful. Were there any problems during pregnancy, labor or delivery?

6 month old: A six month old can roll from back to front and front to back, some may be able to sit up. No stranger anxiety typically until 9 month and later.  Too young to be playing with other children, may be interested in what others are doing, may smile at them but will not interact with other children in a cooperative manner.

a doc on here said that the fp rock n play has been known to cause o2 desaturation in an infant that led to cp. where can i find evidence of this?

No risk, no worry: For obvious reasons, STDs are extremely rare in infants or toddlers. And even if an STD were present, there would be little or no risj from such contact. Don't worry about it.

I : I would definitely recommend a bassinet right next to your bed. That's where both of my breast fed babies slept. It was convenient and safe. With a bassinet the baby is separate and yet close enough for all those late night feedings!
