Usually underlying all of these diagnoses of the foot are altered gait mechanics and the way that pressure is transmitted through the foot. Therefore evaluation by a podiatrist and consideration for custom orthotics and possibly even new shoes is appropriate

Gout: Although it could be other things, what you are describing sounds like gout. Take ibuprofen and see a doctor. There are medicines available for gout. If not gout and not an injury, it could be a skin infection or bug bite that got infected.

Probably safe to treat at home but need some help. Redness suggest inflammation/possible infection/cellulitis. Some form of inflammation occurring in that ankle. Achilles Tendinitis a possibility. Ice,rest, elevate: Use ice and an ace wrap to keep down swelling and elevate it as much as possible. If it is not better in a few days you may need to get an xray. If it becomes more painful to walk on it then see a doctor and get it checked. I hope it is better soon.

: Fluid retention and cardiac conditions should be considered. Avoid alcohol prior to bedtime. If you have had COVID 19 infection, post infection, cardiac conditions may occur. Avoid standing for long periods of time. Monitor BP and watch for signs of shortness of breath. Please follow up with your Physician.

Ankle pain: can be from a variety of causes.  Get an exam as soon as you can to pinpoint the exact diagnosis and treatment plan for you. Going without treatment can sometimes create worse problems in patients with fractures. Best wishes!

Acute flare up: I would suggest an acute gout attack, however, this condition is very unusual for a 17 year old female.  It may just be an insect bite or perhaps a misstep from the day before that became painful overnight.  If it does not improve in 24-48 hours i would suggest having it looked at.

Possible break: You need to ice, elevate and place an ace bandage around the area as soon as possible and as often as you can tonight.  If he wakes up in the morning with significant pain and swelling, than get him to the doctor.  If the pain has fairly well dissipated, than this may be just a sprain, or contusion.  Good luck.
