Things we look for: We look to make sure you are not tearing and contagious, and that there is no evidence of white spots in your cornea (which can cause light sensitivity and blurry vision). This usually occurs right after the redness has subsided.  You could also get dry eyes which may need to be treated prior to resuming contact lens wear.  Hope that helps!

Conjunctivitis: No contacts  for one week, itching can be normal with pink eye unless you also have allergies! Continue antibiotics drops for 24 hrs after your eyes feel and look normal!

Accepted Answer

Till it's over: Your doctor should instruct you to stop wearing your contact lenses until your pink eye has completely resolved. Whether viral or bacterial, the critters causing your pink eye can survive on your contacts and reinfect you. Better yet, throw out that pair and start a fresh pair after your pink eye has resolved. But don't start wearing contact lenses again until after your pink eye has resolved.

Yes: You may be having a reaction to the contacts or the contact lens solution.  It should be pretty easy to sort out with an exam.

No: Not a good idea.  Wait until the eye clears up, maybe 3-4 days.

Once : Once your symptoms are completely resolved and your therapy to treat the condition is done than you should be ok to go back to wearing contact lenses.

Alllergic: Both viral and allergic conjunctivitis have similar symptoms except itch happens with allergic conjunctivitis.  The viral one is contagious and correlates  with the a upper respiratory viral infection during or after recovery.   Artificial tears and Cold compressors help with the symptoms.
