i had a lumpectomy 4 yrs ago & developed a seroma after surgery & have had to have the fluid removed every year since.  why is this lasting so long?

Since the exact: cause of seroma formation is unknown , it is difficult to be able to reassure you as to how long fluid will have to be withdrown. There are a number of possible treatments with varying reports of success. 
Consult with an experienced Breast Surgeon for advice!

Common: Whithout an examination i cannot telll. Transient swelling in the groins after laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery that resolves on its own can be very normal and of no consequence.

2 years post op fusion l3-l4 diagnosed with seroma been in pain the whole time after surgery is this something serious back, hip, leg pain. how treated?

See your surgeon : For something this serious, please contact your treating surgeon.  If you no longer see than surgeon, ask your pcp for spine or ortho spine surgeon.

Highly unlikely: You should have the collection evaluated asap. See your surgeon and a ct scan or an MRI may be needed.

i have an reoccurring abdominal seroma, it has been drained several times, so now i am getting surgery friday for it, how is this surgery done?

Seroma: normally these are drained and resolve  -    however occasional they re occur.    Surgery is usually minor and involves removing the seroma and the capsule that may have developed around it.  They may use the same incision site from your previous surgery or may make a fresh incision to remove the seroma.    Good luck

why would seroma develop after open heart surgery?

Usually does not: A seroma is a collection of clear fluid that can develop after surgery but is most commonly seen following breast surgery and some types of plastic surgery. Serum leaks into tissue causing swelling. It is different from a hematoma which is blood and contains red blood cells. I can't recall seeing this as a significant complication of open heart surgery except when fluid accumulates in the legs.

Seroma: Majority of time six months is enough time for seroma to resolve. At this point it can safely be aspirated if resolution is not satisfactory. How it should be done depends on comfort level of surgeon. It can be done with or without ultrasound. With ultrasound is somewhat safer.

Fluid collection: A weak spot refers to an abdominal wall hernia. A seroma is a fluid collection made of serum a component of the blood stream without the red blood cells. Usually a seroma can occur after a hernia repair. Please clarify with the surgeon if they meant that you "could" develop a seroma versus you already having a seroma.

Early on: A seroma is a fluid collection that forms in body spaces, such as where a hernia bulge was present before surgery; the larger the hernia, the higher the probability of a seroma forming. This is typically reabsorbed within weeks after surgery, although underlying mesh may slow this down. Rarely, it persists for months and may require aspiration.

It is not : Common but it happens it is a collection of serous fluid  that the body will eventually absorb in moSt cases. Occasionally the need to be drained
