Lymphocytosis: The normal percentage of lymphocytes on a CBC (complete blood count) is 20-40% in adults.  69% would be considered high.  There are many different causes for a high lymphocyte count (lymphocytosis), and your provider should be able to determine the reason for a high count.

Percentage?: Lymphocytes and neutrophils fluctuate spectacularly over the short-term. Unless the absolute counts are very far from the reference range (which is set to include most but by no means all healthies), don't worry; i actually wish labs wouldn't even report percentages. If your lympocyte count is 42, 500 your physician would already have advised you about his/her concerns.

Not to worry: The lymphocyte count is a part of the differential white count on the CBC test. The most common reason why it would be low is because of a higher neutrophil count dropping the relative percentage of the lymphocyte count.  Unless the absolute lymphocyte count is persistently low with all the other counts in normal range, nothing to worry about.

That's fine : These numbers fluctuate wildly from hour to hour. If all the cells are well formed, you are fine.

Why do you ask?: If the absolute lymphocyte count is anywhere near the reference range, stop worrying.  Even more so for the absolute monocyte count. Reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthies fall outside.

Most likely yes.: Unfortunately, you have only provided one factor in assessing normal counts.  To be sure a whole CBC (Complete blood count) needs to be reviewed.  This includes counts of white cells, red cells, and platelets.  It also includes additional measurements.  The one value you provided is a percentage of white cells that are lymphocytes and can have a large range and vary in a patient continuously.

Why check it?: Do you have any physical symptoms or complaints? Why did you get your blood count checked in the first place?. Right now these values do not worry me; but you need to send us the complete blood count(CBC) results. Also recheck your CBC once more sometime in the next 3 to 6 months and send us the results if there is any increase in your blood counts.

Stop worrying: I'm a pathologist / lab physician and wish labs simply didn't report white cell percentages. This is a problem is, and only if, your absolute lymphocyte count is elevated far above the reference range. Since you sound like you had a chest cold when the labs were done, it's no surprise your lymphs were a bit up -- they were helping recover. The percentages fluctuate wildly even hour-to-your.
