But some patients never notice this, and that is normal too. Never put anything in the vagina/cervix or do anything to try to "make the mucus plug come out". This could cause infection, bleeding, or other serious problems.

About to deliver: A pregnant woman's mucus plug is expelled just prior to delivery.  It is present to help block bacteria from entering the uterus during pregnancy.
