About to deliver: A pregnant woman's mucus plug is expelled just prior to delivery. It is present to help block bacteria from entering the uterus during pregnancy. Sometimes, loss of a mucus plug can be associated with some bloody discharge. If you are the one who is pregnant, you may want to let your OB know. Good luck!

Labor on the horizon: The mucous plug provides infection protection for the uterus/fetus when in place and is generally expelled about 4 weeks prior to active labor.
