i had a lap.gallbladder surgery i have 13-24 surgical clips in my liver, is it a normal thing to have in after that surgery?#nqlu in laproscopic surgeries they cannot use stiches so i have been told since, they only staple.

It : It is normal to have clips in the area below your liver known as the gallbladder fossa after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal).  13 or 24 clips is a lot, however.  Normally, most surgeons will have 2-3 clips on what is called the cystic duct stump and on the cystic artery, making 4-6 clips normal.  That being said, every patient and every case is different.  It is possible that you had what is called "aberrant anatomy" such that you either had extra blood vessels that required more clips, or that you had some large venous sinuses under your liver that were bleeding during surgery and required more clips.  
If you are more than a few weeks out from your surgery and are doing fine then this probably isn't anything to worry about.  In most cases, the complications associated with having your gallbladder removed laparoscopically occur almost immediately after surgery and are readily apparent.  There are some less common problems, such as narrowing of your bile duct or occlussion of your hepatic artery that can show up later.  If these things happen, they do tend to be associated with cases that are considered more difficult.  If you are concerned you should ask the surgeon who did your procedure to explain to you how your surgery went and if you should be concerned, but i suspect you have little to be worried about.

Depends on location: There may be reasons to keep material a little longer, but general guidelines:

sutures
eyelids – 3 days
neck – 3 to 4 days
face – 5 days

sutures and staples
scalp – 7 to 14 days
trunk and upper extremities – 7 days
lower extremities – 8 to 10 days.

the skin from a wound after surgery seems to be growing over on of the staples. do i need to have it seen to immediately, or should i wait for the removal date.

how long will it take a liver donor to recover after surgery?

Accepted Answer

Depends: Recovery is based in stages. You will recover from the anesthesia in minutes.  Usually you will be out of the hospital in days.  You may be back at work in a couple of weeks (depending upon what you do) but it will take 3 to 6 months to stop feeling like you had surgery.

Tippie canoe.......: In my experience, I have seen very few 16 day old surgical wounds that could be considered healed enough to risk developing an infection from being immersed in contaminated water.  Ask your surgeon and see if he agrees.

i have bile gastritis after gallbalder removal. i am.in my 26 day after surgery .liver will adjust not to produce  so much bile?

The liver is working: just fine- it is a stomach issue and usually responds to acid inhibition with Protonix, Nexium or Prilosec. Avoid all fried greasy or fatty foods.

a dr. recommended me to have pph surgery for a large internal hemorrhoid. i sometimes engage in anal play with my gf and was wondering if this would still be possible after the surgery? do the staples all come out after surgery?

: I think you should have this question answered by your rectal surgeon especially if, in addition to that large internal hemorrhoid, there was  any degree of rectal prolapse. Let the surgeon know about your practice of occasional anal play.

dad has cirrhosis of the liver and had esophageal variceal bleeding, how long does he have after surgery?

Accepted Answer

Unknown: If you are asking what his life span is, nobody knows. There are alternatives to surgery for esophageal varices including tips by interventional radiologists, and endoscopic banding done by gastroenterologists.

if colon cancer was there several years n now removed - why only after surgery a liver met appears ? all prior scans were showing no distant spread ?

Accepted Answer

Not unusual.: It sometimes takes years for a metastasis in the liver or elsewhere to become large enough to be seen with the tests that we have available, such as CT scans or pet scans. If the metastasis is isolated and small, it may still be able to be treated. Be sure to discuss this in depth with your oncologist. Good luck.
