Not possible: Energy drinks are of very limited value and can cause harm because of the high caffeine content. It is unlikely it causes drowsiness.

Meds: Energy drinks have usually caffiene and mixing sleeping tablets is confusing, usually you wont die but anything is possible.

Temporary fix: Energy drinks can give you temporary bursts of energy. They may contain caffeine, b vitamins, sugar and other stimulating agents like ginseng. However, they are not a permanent solution.  You should see your doc or a sleep specialist to figure out the cause of the insomnia. If you are under stress, try meditation, yoga, massage ; listening to relaxing music.

Energy drinks: Yes, it is quite possible.  Many of these "energy drinks" contain much higher levels of caffeine than in a cup or two of coffee.  Additional ingredients may also trigger reactions in sensitive individuals.  Avoid these drinks, and consider getting some exercise (like brisk walking) if you need a brief pickup in the afternoon.  Any caffeine after 6 PM can trigger sleep problems.  Good luck!

i'm 23 and i'm going to be working my first night shift, any suggestions on sleep and food and drinks to keep me awake but not energy drinks or coffee?

Will depend on your : sleep/ear cycle since that will determine your energy level needed for your night shift. Get a good  7-8 night sleep during the day using black blinds/eye shields. Then decide whether you need to eat a meal in the middle of your shift versus snacking. Organic protein bar is great to give you stamina. Organic raw nuts, fruit is good. Also, a green smoothie with raw cacao and raw grapseeed flour.

Could be many things: See your doctor.  There are mental health problems that could be causing this but also physical ones, such as anemia, sleep apnea, hypothyroidism... Many others.  Important to rule them out one by one, in the order that a professional thinks are the most likely culprits.

Energy drinks: I would let your body metabolize the stimulant you've already ingested and avoid energy drinks/caffeine for a while.  Eventually it will get out of your system and you'll be able to sleep.  Take this as a learning experience as too many energy drinks can cause even more severe symptoms.  I see several in the er every year.

Yes: Heart problems are a danger with diet pills and energy drinks. Have her see Physician to help her find other ways.
