Lower blood pressure: Diltiazem is in the class of medications called calcium channel blockers.  Diltiazem is used to lower blood pressure, slow heart rate in certain heart rhythm conditions, and assist in the treatment of angina.  Common brand names are cardizem, tiazac (diltiazem) or dilacor. 

Diltiazem has various immediate release and sustained release formulations so be sure that you are taking it properly.

yes: I couldn't find any data on what percentage, if any  systemic absorption occurs with Diltiazem cream, however, oral Diltiazem (which obviously has systemic effects) is considered safe for lactating women.

Affect the rhythm: These are typically drugs to treat arrhythmia.  Commonly fast heart rate from a rapid atrial arrhythmia (typically atrial fibrillation) is treated.  Flecainid is a class ic drug that helps restore rhythm.  Diltiazem is calcium channel blocker that is an av blocking agent that slows down the heart rate.

: Flecainide is used to convert parox a. fib to normal rhythm and diltiazem and carvedilol are used to slow down your heart rate and lower blood pressure. They can be used together but you need to monitor your heart rate. If heart rate is less than 50, either cardizem or carvedilol has to be held or dose is reduced. This is just a general advice, you should communicate with your cardiologist.

: There are usually no symptoms of Afib until the dysthymia happens. Even then, it can be asymptomatic if the rate is controlled and there are not a lot of long pauses between the irregular beats. The main issue with going in and out of Afib is the risk of stroke so blood thinners are often used, if tolerated. Good luck!

: High doses of corticosteroids can accelerate heart rates &amp; could precipitate a bout of A Fib.  Doses of methylprednisilone aren't super high in dospak. If you're taking diltiazem regularly it would offer some protection. If not, would your cardiologist be willing to recommend a daily dose for you to take while you're on the medrol dose pack?  I'd like to see you get relief from cervical stenosis.
