Depends: There is no specific timeline in which a psychosis is determined.  It really depends on how the symptoms are affecting you. If you are seriously troubled by the voices or things you see or believe, seek help immediately. If it has led to drop in function (like not going to work or isolating from friends and family or leading to urges to follow through with the hallucinations) then seek help.

Sometimes: It can depend sometimes on the type of schizophrenia one has. It also varies from person to person. Some may remember every detail while others remember nothing.

Many causes: There are many possible causes for psychotic episodes.  These days, drug intoxication and withdrawal are exceedingly common.  Also bipolar disorder with mania; schizophrenia; psychotic depression; brief reactive psychosis; delirium (not just due to drugs); etc.  Consultation with a psychiatrist can help narrow it down.

Depends on problem: From my experience, how long an antipsychotic is prescribed after a psychotic episode depends upon the nature of the psychotic episode and the underlying illness. If the illness is one that has had recurrent psychotic episodes, then the antipsychotic should probably be continued indefinitely.  It is possible that the combination of duloxetine and Prozac (fluoxetine) has triggered a manic episode, in which case discontinuing those medications might allow for discontinuation of the antipsychotic. So therefore important to talk with your doctor about this.

i had a drug induced psychotic episode in march 2013. i have since recovered but can't concentrate. is methylphenidate suitable for me?

Careful, now: If you had a "drug induced psychotic episode" less than a year ago, i would be observing carefully for any other issues.  People with an innate tendency to psychosis are more likely to have these responses.  You've also listed citalopram and Abilify (aripiprazole) as current medications.  I would not be keen on adding stimulants to you at all, but would review your current medications ; effects more carefully.

: Contact your physician immediately.  Consider visiting an urgent care center or emergency room.  The sooner you act, the more rapidly this can be controlled.

That : That is a very tough question to answer.  A brief reactive psychosis normally lasts one day to less than one month.   First, i can not find literature that pins down an actual percentage for recurrence. Most often a person with a brief reactive psychotic episode will return to normal function and the majority will not suffer another psychotic event. Most often there is a markedly stressful triggering event.  When the psychosis occurs in the absence of a stressor or trigger the chance of a recurrence is higher. Chances or recurrence are also higher in people with particular types of personality disorders. It the psychotic event is acutally just the initial episode in someone with bipolar disorder (when depressed or manic) or in someone who is schizoprhenic then more psychotic episodes would be likely.

: Psychotic episodes are a very serious thing. It may be that you are psychologically very normal now because of the meds. Any change in psych meds has to be very carefully monitored as the withdrawal period can result in tragic reactions such as suicidality and more severe psychotic reactions. Additionally, psych meds take up to 6-8 weeks for the body to become accustomed to them. Give it time.
