Many causes: There are many possible causes for psychotic episodes. These days, drug intoxication and withdrawal are exceedingly common. Also bipolar disorder with mania; schizophrenia; psychotic depression; brief reactive psychosis; delirium (not just due to drugs); etc. Consultation with a psychiatrist can help narrow it down.
