i've got a bad canker sore and it hurts to eat anything. any suggestions for food?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Avoid acidic foods, orange juice, tomatoes etc.  Eat bland foods for a few days, avoid spices, and spicy foods too.

: In any event, if the lesion does not resolve on its own within a two week period it needs to be examined. Please see an oral surgeon or a hospital based oral pathologist.

Canker: Canker sores, otherwise known as aphthous ulcers can be intensely painful (the textbooks say exquisitely painful). As a Family Physician myself, I would recommend you see you Family Doctor. In the meantime over the counter products like Anbesol  or  Oragel can be helpful.

Well, no....: cannot say in your particular case, and canker sores can have wide inflammation helped by NSAIDS. AND, serious infection can be misdiagnosed as a canker sore.

It might...: You might be getting referred pain from the sore. If your tooth pain vanishes with the sore you'll know that's what it was.

Check it out: Chloraseptic liquid will ease the canker sore without burning the tissue. If the swollen gland does not go away in a week or 10 days have your dentist look for a dental infection and failing that see your physician to have it checked out

Canker sore: Go to the pharmacy and get some ointment to cover the lesion it will make you so much more comfortable
if that doesn't help see your dentist.

Roof of mouth: This can't be answered without a visual examination. Have the area examined by your dentist, especially if it does not heal within 5-7 days.
In the meantime, avoid anything that irritates it such as hot and/or acidic foods.
