i am using plavix 75mg, hydroxyurea 500mg, and allopurinol 300mg daily. is there a special diet to use when taking these tablet combinations? what foods shall i avoid and what foods are beneficial to use ? thanking you for your assistance ?

: No foods interact with the medications you take; however, because allopurinol is used to treat high serum uric acid so it will be counter-effective if you continue to eat foods with high uric content such as most kinds of seafood, red meats, lentils, fava beans or cauliflower, spinach, or asparagus, etc. You can googles for the foods with high uric content and certain fruits lower uric acid.

hi doctors. i take metoprolol er, plavix, 81 mg aspirin, & losartan each daily. does it matter in which order i take them? should i take them all at the same time? should i take them in the morning or at night, with or without food or does it matter?

: None of these drugs interact with each other. You may take them in the morning or at night , together or separately.

Anticoagulation : Anticoagulation is recommended for patients with atrial fibrillation and CHADS2 score of 2 or higher for stroke prevention.  Aspirin and Plavix (clopidogrel) do not offer the same protection. NOACs have not been compared head to head to determine which one is the safest. Any one of them would be a good choice.

Seven: it take seven to ten days for the plavix (clopidogrel)  to be effective as a mild blood thinner and it take the same time to reverse the effect the closer you are to the seven days the less protection you have from the plavix (clopidogrel)

It : It depends on what type of stent you have and how long you have had it. Many newer generation stents are coated with a medicine to prevent the stent from narrowing. These are called drug eluting stents (des). You must take Plavix (clopidogrel) for a minimum of one year after this type of stent is placed, and many cardiologists recommend you continue to take it indefinitely unless you have complications from the medicine. If you discontinue the medication before advised, there is a risk of a blood clot forming in the stent which would block blood flow and result in a heart attack. There are also bare metal stents (bms) without the drug coating. These only require Plavix (clopidogrel) for one month. If you are currently taking Plavix (clopidogrel) after having a stent placed, it is extremely important that you discuss with your cardiologist whether you can stop it. And never let another physician stop your Plavix (clopidogrel) without discussing with your cardiologist first.

Side effect: It is better not to take some other medication to counteract side effects of another. Gerd and GI upsets can be a side effect of clopidogrel. It depends how long you have been taking it. If you have been taking it for a long time and this problem is new then it may not be the clopidogrel.

No. Arterial vs veno: Plavix represents an entirely different class of blood thinners than Eliquis &amp; Xarelto. Plavix (Clopidogrel) is an ARTERIAL blood thinner &amp; stabilizes cholesterol plaques that are found in arteries.
