A positive test for antibodies to herpes simplex virus (HSV), the cause of herpes infections, mean you are infected with HSV. The standard tests look for antibodies to HSV1, the cause of oral herpes, and HSV2, the usual cause of genital herpes.

There are factors that can cause false readings.
