Accepted Answer

Normal: I can  only address a sinus or mastoid cat scan. But when a radiologist states unremarkable, that means he or she can not detect any pathology.  Incidental bilateral is too non-specific in you question, but usually means a variant of normal.  Let us know what the anatomical area visualized is and what incidental bilateral means.

Cardiologist: Both those studies are nondiagnostic. A cardiologist is best to evaluate and advise you. In addition to listening to your heart and inspecting your EKG,  an echocardiogram will be done to accurately assess your heart chambers.

reading a ct scan report.  what does unopacified vasculature and decreased enhancement mean?

Accepted Answer

Technical: Usually during a CT scan, a contrast agent is injected intravenously.  That agent is seen primarily in blood vessels.  Unopacified vasculature means blood vessels which do not contain contrast, either because none was administered, or because there is diminished blood flow into those vessels. Decreased enhancement means that the area described doesn't appear in high contrast on the CT scan.

my niece had a ct scan after having horrible headaches. the results read "calcification" what does this mean?

Calcium deposits: A calcification is just the presence of an area on the scan that has the density of calcium. It usually means that area was injured in some way and the bodies response was to lay down this dense material. It is not a favorable finding, but the location and amount may point to a specific cause.

ast (23) is greater than alt (20) which i read means cirrhosis, but fibroscan was normal and contrast ct scan showed nothing? what's going on?

As I read it...: ...your AST and ALT are normal, which accounts for why your fibroscan and CT scan showed nothing.  Your stated concern about the AST/ALT ratio may have validity if/when the AST and ALT values are unequivocally abnormal.

i had a heart ct scan and one of the reading is there are 2 small sclerotic foci within the sternum and they both measure 7 mm in diameter. my question is what does that mean? it was recommended to have a bone scan any suggestions?

Accepted Answer

: The sclerotic foci in your sternum are too small to worry about them. Unless you have some local symptoms such as pain or swelling, there is no need to do a Bone scan. Bone scan would be reasonable in someone with a prior history of Breast Cancer. Otherwise this finding can be left alone at this time. Such foci in the bones are benign and require no follow up testing.

what does "ct scan w/o contrast" mean?

CT W/O CONTRAST: This is a CT scan pf the body WITHOUT the need of intravenous (IV) contrast. This does not automatically mean that the study may be done without oral contrast (typically in the setting of a CT of the abdomen and pelvis). Depends on what specifically the doctor is trying to assess.

CT pain: The CT scan itself should be painless.  However, if there is an intravenous injection involved, there may be some discomfort at the injection site, and there may be a sensation of heat or a flushed feeling in the body.  If you have neck or back problems, or other positioning issues, you may be uncomfortable laying on the table.  Otherwise, pain during the CT scan is probably unrelated to the CT .
