This condition frequently occurs in people who have a tendency toward oily skin, dandruff or dry eyes.  Swollen or red eyelids; burning, stinging, or itchy eyelids; blurry vision that comes and goes; scales or skin flakes at the bottom of the eyelashes; "sleep.".

Try using hot compresses each am and a gentle lid scrub (dilute baby shampoo or a wipe like ocusoft) to control, but if symtpoms persist an eye doctor can provide further help/treatment.

Isolated new lesion: A small red patch on the eyelid can commonly be caused by an eczematous breakout. Of course other causes can be allergic or infectious in nature. If far enough from the ocular surface itself then dermatological ointments will help. If close to the ocular surface then an ophthalmic ointment will be safer.
