Yes: If  you have a propensity to break out in hives, then any "stressor" ("stress") will cause the hives to appear.

Yes: Stress in the form of trauma, exercise, and/or cold can bring on the onset of hives. Hives is primarily due to the release of several chemicals in our bodies such as seratonin, bradykinins, and histamines. When we get stressed these chemicals are released and can be revealed as hives( areas of inflammation on our skin).

Stress relief: While the same medications are used to treat hives, it is always best to treat the underlying condition that is aggravating the hives.  In the case of stress, this may include seeing a counselor, stress relieving activities (yoga, meditation, prayer) and if the stress is significant even medications for anxiety may be necessary.

You can take : Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or a similar antihistamine for the actual hives but you will need to learn manage your stress. Ways to address stress. Talk about feelings ; address problems. Don't avoid them. Aim for 7.5 - 8 hours of sleep/ night. Daily physical activity is optimal in a green space. Eat healthfully. Cut out junk carbs, caffeine ; alcohol (or  moderate). Try qi gong, tai chi, acupuncture, acupressure, &gt;.

Yes: Acute hives can last days up to 6 weeks. If hives last longer than 6 weeks it is called chronic hives.  Sometimes chronic hives will last years or even decades.  While hives are itchy, they are not dangerous or contagious!  stress may aggravate hives....

: If they are truly from stress then by having the stress treated. In the meantime you can use calamine lotion.

Cholinergic Hives: There is no cure for cholinergic urticaria, and treatment options are often limited. Some common treatments include taking antihistamines (such a allegra, (fexofenadine) zyrtec, or stronger ones), avoiding known triggers (such as hot weather, physical activity, and spicy foods), corticosteriods (only for extreme cases), anabolic steroids,  uvb therapy, sweat/exercise therapy, diet changes.
