Blood sugar control : The hba1c provides an estimate of overall blood sugar control covering a 3 month period.  If abnormally high patients may have prediabetes or diabetes.   A normal hba1c doesn't completely rule out either condition. Though if there is concern about diabetes then other tests will also be recommended by your doctor. Please discuss with your physician.

after being on metformin500 for 7 months. my blood sugar got normalized. a1c now 5.3 mean plasma glucose 111.fastin (phentermine) 98.the2 hour test 87. did medicatin correct the problem and how is that possible?

Possibly: Metformin works by decreasing sugar production by the liver also in some cases help with weight loss. A combination of reasons - medications, change in diet and weight loss might account for the result. Good job, keep it up.

Fasting? A1c level?: Did you fast overnight before testing your blood glucose? How did you do the test? It would be better to see your doctor for a proper fasting plasma glucose test. If that show a reading 100 or higher, you would be considered pre-diabetic. See this site for more info.

holy cow. after a bowl of cereal my blood sugar spiked to 165. it took over 3 hours just to get in the 140s. im not diabetic but i test because of family history.a1c 5if i eat keto my bs never goes past 110. am i doomed? (56 yof #50 lbs overweight?

Borderline: Your a1c is borderline.  Diet and increased exercise may lower your a1c.  Consultation with an endocrinologist may be of use now.

: If the values you reported are accurate, you should consult an endocrinologist for a glucose tolerance test. It is not likely that you have diabetes, other than the one glucose result higher than 200. If the glucose results were from a glucometer, those are not as accurate as plasma glucose done in an accredited lab.
