It may be muscular: Some people that have a TMJ problem (joint in the wrong position) will rest their bite on their tongue.  They do this to find a position where the joints are able to function somewhat better that biting their teeth together which may injure the joint.  A good sign this may be occurring is if the joint clicks or pops where opening from biting the teeth together.  Check with you dentist.

This is a: term I hear about most often from singers and it refers to the tongues MUSCULATURE which when "tense" (contracted) can effect the voice quality! Elevated tongue tension is also associated with TMJ (Tempero-mandibiular joint) disorders. 
Your DENTIST is the person to ask first .. an ENT  Throat specialist may also be consulted!

Burning Tongue Synd.: Could be herpetic viral syndrome or burning tongue/mouth syndrome. Could be thrush: White plaques which do not  come off easily could be thrush, a yeast infection of the mouth. It is especially common when you are taking certain medications or with certain immunologic conditions. There could be other causes, or it could be something else. Best to get it checked out. No.: A large tongue does not mean down syndrome.  Lots of normal people have large tongues.  Believe it or not, people with Down syndrome don't have large tongues, they have small mouths!  large tongue can be a part of other syndromes, but there are many other findings also.
