i fractured my wrist 6 weeks ago (fracture right distal radius).

i had a below-the-elbow cast which came off yesterday. i am wearing a splint

would you advice to play soccer on saturday? what can i wear to protect my wrist further?

Ask your orthopedist: In a young healthy person, at 6 weeks, a fracture is usually healed.  However, I do not know the details or severity of your injury.  It is easily possible to fall playing soccer and reinjure it, which would be horrible.  You need to follow the advice of the person who knows the details of your injury - your orthopedic doctor.

Accepted Answer

Physically, yes, but: Depending on the competition, the referee may not permit you to play. I am a ussf certified referee and in sanctioned competitions, casts/splints are not permitted due to the risk of injury to other players.

how can i wrap my arm cast so that its safe to play football?

Accepted Answer

Not a good idea: Anything sufficient to protect your healing bone under the cast would be so inhibiting that your football skills would be minimal. Anything less would risk your healing and a non-union of a bone is an ordeal best avoided if possible.

Broken thumb.: Please follow your doctor's advice. It does take 6 weeks to heal.

Follow Up Medicine: I believe that most, if not all of us here, would hesitate to give you this specific advice. The answer to this question should come from the physician managing your care where you live.

Accepted Answer

Depends but: Typically most fracture heal in about 3 months but may continue remodelling for up to a year. After three months most fractures are healed to the point where there are no restrictions. That is also true for compound fractures but it depends on their severity.

my 13 yr old daughter upon waking from occasional naps has spasms in her arm, what could be causing this.  she plays soccer, and is the goalie.

Accepted Answer

Possibilities: This could be as simple as a condition called sleep myoclonus, that happens to most people occasionally.It might also be something more important.I would discuss it with her dock at the next visit, or sooner if this is becoming more frequent.

You can but shouldn': You are more susceptible to reinjuring your arm if you fall or are bumped while playing. This would ultimately lengthen, not shorten, your recovery.

can a soccer player play with a cast on with pins in after surgery for a colles fracture? how long of a return timetable?

Accepted Answer

Not a great idea: I wouldn't recommend it to any of my patients
except in unusual circumstances
with any fall there is a chance you could
cause further damage or change in position of the fracture or in the fixation pins
would wait until the cast is off and then play with a splint or wrapping by trainor.

i broke my distal radius last week they put me in a full arm cast and they said they will make the cast smaller in a week will i get a below elbow cast? displaced btw?

Accepted Answer

: As you improve/heal after a fracture, you need less and less plaster to protect the break.  In a full arm cast you lose substantial function; with a below elbow cast you will be much more mobile and your recovery will be easier.  They will not progress unless it is deemed safe for you.
