Exercise: Often knees give out due to pain. If you treat the pain and strengthen the surrounding muscles it lowers the chance of the knees giving out . Make sure she is evaluated by a doctor to determine that there is no structural reason her knees are giving out like weakness from nerve or ligament damage.

??: You should consult your orthopedic surgeon regarding this   it may not be anything significant but you should communicate it to the surgeon   in the mean time try hot; cold packs and wrap the knee with plastic wrap at bed time this frequently helps.

Knee laxity: You may have ligamentous tear or laxity. A torn anterior cruciate ligament can also be a cause. An evaluation by an orthopedist can confirm what is going on. Physical therapy to strengthen all the muscles that support the knee can help, or the doctor may also recommend a laparoscopic operation to repair. if the doctor is considering an operation, you'll also need an MRI of the knee to confirm.

When less pain: Wear heels when your knee has been minimally painful for several consecutive weeks and it feels stable (no giving out or buckling). Consider shoes with smaller heels and possibly more of a wedge instead of true "high heel." Also, wear heels in short segments and when you don't have to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time, especially on uneven surfaces.
