Different causes: "giving out" or weakness of the knees can have different causes. These can include problems outside the knee joint itself (weak muscles for example) or inside the knee (torn ligaments or cartilage). See an orthopaedic surgeon to address your individual problem.

Several conditions: Knees can give out for various reasons, from ligament tears, to nerve problems, to pain-related issues. Be examined by a dr, especially if you had an injury or pain with the buckling/giving out.
