i just had gallbladder surgery 6 weeks ago and i just had a blood test and my placelet was 405 is that reason to be concern?

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, a high platelet count could be due iron deficiency from blood loss at surgery. Take oral iron and multivitamin supplements and retest in 6 months.

Several things: Most common cause for back pain after gb surgery is transporting you from the or table when you are only semi-awake...Less common cause is a retained stone in your common duct which could be accompanied by jaundice.

Accepted Answer

Depends on how: Much of elevation and how soon after surgery.  If it is sudden elevation shortly after surgery, it could mean something bad, like retained stone, obstruction of common duct, liver damage, etc.  Conversely, if is is a slight elevation years after surgery, then it is probably not even related.

Water?: Could be due to generalize water retention after the operation. This will go away as you go through the recovery period. May last 1-3 weeks. This depends of course when you had your surgery. If you're concerned something is wrong, call your surgeon. Hope this helps!

after open gallbladder surgery, i've had really bad lower right side back pain and spasms. i mostly slept sitting up after. can that be the cause?

Maybe: Would need more information. How long ago was the surgery? In the first few weeks after major open abdominal surgery, there sometimes can be some back muscle pains due to abnormal posture while sitting or standing. Try changing positions, stand up more straight, walk more, use local heat on the muscles. See your surgeon to be sure that you are healing properly.

after gallbladder surgery i still have pain lasting 20 minutes. the surgery was 9 years ago. the ultrasound done was normal. what is cause of my pain?

Further evaluation: Needed. Right-sided abdominal pain is fairly common after gallbladder removal and can be due to retained stones, microlithiasis or biliary dyskinesia. Not usually: Once a bad gallbladder is removed and those symptoms fade, your underlying bile/acid reflux may become more symptomatic. Bile binders and anti acid medications can help you. Okay to check in with your surgeon or your regular doc. Be well.

Bile reflux: Most likely due to bile reflux not acid reflux/ Suggest seeing gastroenterologist. May need Reglan (metoclopramide) to help empty the stomach faster

Depends: Hi, depending on where the tube is this could be normal or abnormal. If the draining tube is meant to drain the bile( eg-as a means of protecting a bile duct anastomoses) then it's normal as the liver can produce large quantities of bile. On the other hand if this tube is in the abdominal cavity ; is just supposed to drain excess fluid then it indicates a bile leak ; is abnormal. Talk 2 surgeon.

i have a low functioning gallbladder can it cause weight loss? also what are the risks of gallbladder surgery? hida scan showed low activity

Accepted Answer

Possible: if GB function is low &lt;20%, then it could be the cause of pain when you eat fatty foods, and some people change diet enough to loose some weight, but not too common. GB surgery done by a surgeon with a laparoscope is an outpatient procedure, most should take under an hour, go home same day.  There are some serious and rare risks, please talk to your surgeon about it.
