See a nephrologist: Orthostatic proteinuria only occurs when you are up and about, i.e. During the day. Significant proteinuria occurs round the clock. Such proteinuria should be worked up by a nephrologist, who can evaluat the problem and then give appropriate advice.

Proteinuria: is the presence of protein in the urine. It can vary from few mg to several grams and can be caused by several diseases most notable diabetes. 
Several effective medications are available which help repair the kidney filters and  prevent progression of kidney disease. 
You will need to see a Nephrologist who will order workup to determine the etiology and treatment plan.

Possibly: Protein loss in the urine is not normal.  Depending on the condition, it can go any way (stay the same, decrease or increase).  See a kidney doctor to run some tests to find out the cause.  This will allow better clues as to whether it will get worse.

Phosphate crystals?: The main cause of on and off cloudy urine is the formation of phosphate crystals, which results from various combinations of fluid and food intake. It&#x27;s harmless. You can check it out by adding 1-2 drops of acid (e.g. vinegar) to a sample of cloudy urine. If phosphates are the cause, it will immediately turn clear.

Trace may be OK: A trace of protein in the urine may be normal for an active 19 year old. If you do moderately heavy workouts, muscle breaks down and forms rapidly and may lead to some protein in urine. However, if you have significant proteinuria of unknown cause, it must be worked up by an internist/nephrologist.

Not likely : That is not a typical side effect from that medication. Proteinuria can have a wide range of causes and some are more serious than others. A full workup will likely provide the answer and should be done to rule out more serious causes. If there is decreased kidney function the dose of vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine)  will need to be decreased.

You've obviously: had it checked out, someone had to order test. I would be a bit concerned, creatinine must be out of normal range for lab. There might be easy explanation, have it checked again.

my 5 year old son went to the doctor for a school physical.  his urine tested high for protein. the doctor has asked that we get a clean sample in the am.  just wondering what would cause the protein to be elevated?

5%-15% : 5%-15% of all kids will have an elevated urine protein level on a single screening test.  The next step is usually to repeat the test - first thing in the morning is best because there is a non-harmful condition called "orthostatic proteinuria" where kids will have protein in their urine throughout the day, but not in the mornings.  Other benign causes of urine protein are recent fever or physcial activity.  The protein usually clears up in a few days which is why testing again is helpful.  If additional urine tests do not have protein, then no need to worry.

If your child continues to have protein in their urine after multiple tests, than your child's doctor may order additional urine and/or blood tests and imaging studies to look for kidney disease called nephropathy.  Nephropathies can be caused by many things including infections, inheritied disorders, autoimmune problems, and sometimes we don't even know why it happens.  Treatment typically depends on the cause of the problem.

i had a bunch of blood work done now my doctor wants me to get serum protein electrophesis and a urine protien electrophesis done! what does this mean?

Proteins: Simple blood & urine tests only reveal if protein is present. Electrophoresis uses electrical current to separate the different proteins into individual components to see if there are specific ones that r high or low. Some diseases r marked by spikes of a particular protein; others by a lack of a protein.

does water intake dilute protein if you have protein in your urine. every time i get a dipstick or they send it off it always come back negative for protein. but yet sometimes i still see foamy like bubbles in my urine?

Yes but Diet matters: The food and drink you consume contribute greatly to the amount of filtered protein in your urine. Decreasing animal based proteins including cows milk products and increasing plant based proteins will help a great deal in reducing excreted vs absorbable and therefore beneficial proteins, vitamins and minerals.
