i had upper endoscopy (egd) 5 days ago. my throat was sore for the first 3 days when swallowing. yesterday and today my throat has a lot of mucus in it and i have to clean clear my throat bc it feels like mucus.do you think this is related to the egd?

: Depending on the length of the EGD procedure, and manipulation of the endoscope necessary for potential biopsies performed, the throat can be irritated and inflamed with resultant excess mucus production, but this should resolve in a few more days. If symptoms persist, see the GI physician who performed the EGD for an exam and guidance.

just had egd. multiple antral erosions. other symptoms: gas, off/on fever, abdo pain, extreme fatigue, diarrhea (sometimes w/blood) + occasional bm's w/nothing but bloody mucus. what might be wrong?

Difficult: Antral erosions can be painful but they usually don't bleed unless bleeding was seen on egd.  Was there anything else seen on the egd such as celiac disease signs? Was colonoscopy done at the same time? Did you have stool studies done or ct scan of the abdomen? Any other labwork. Anything been tried as far as medication? Hard to come up with answers without more detail. Sorry.

Unlikely: Ibs-type symptoms in mid-twenties female unlikely cancer. More likely recurrence of ibs. See a gastroenterologist for understanding. Keep in mind a mutual association of fibromyalgia & joint hypermobility syndrome in females with ibs. Imo, pelvic joint disorders often complicitous in all these disorders.  Osteopath, physiatrist, & physical therapist best specialists to evaluate. If fever go now.

Constipation: You mentioned that all the test are normal. Constipation can cause nausea, fatigue, pelvic heaviness, and painful to pass stool and gas due to exertion. Drink a lot of water/fluid, increase fibers in your diet, and chew your food well before swallow. Drink a glass of slightly warm water with little salt early in the morning. Exercise regularly, everyday walk is good. Try probiotics. Consult GI doc

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!

: If liver function blood tests were normal, with a normal mrcp there's a good chance that the dilated bile ducts are insignificant. Erosive gastritis would not cause large amounts of mucus in stools, but inflammatory bowel disease can. Was there any sign of Crohn's disease in your studies as associated abdominal pain is strongly suggestive of inflammatory bowel disease. Was the ileum seen clearly?

Rare but possible: You can have perforations of the esophagus, stomach, or intestine from a scope.  These kinds of complications are rare, but do occur.

More than three...: An esophagogastroduodenoscopy uses a flexible endoscope to visualize the patient's esophagus, stomach and duodenum.  A great deal of information can be obtained during this 20 minute procedure, and biopsies can be performed as necessary.

can i take tyenol prior to a egd?

Tylenold and EGD: Normally patient going for egd, have nothing to eat or npo night before in the hospital setting but for the stand point of if the tylenol (acetaminophen) is going to interfere with the result if you take it the nigh before , the answer is not. The medication is full . In fact, all medications should be taken the night before as per recommendation of your doctor and no meds the day of the procedure.

Quite routine: Lot of time when an egd is done, there is high index of suspicion so there are more often stomach, esophageal, duodenal bx to confirn our suspicion.
