Pain : The actual term is a "cuff", and it describes tendons that wrap around the top of your humerus at your shoulder, like the end of your sleeve wraps around your wrist.  Because it is soft tissue, it doesn't "break", but can tear.  Pain and decreased movement are the most common symptoms of arotator cuff tear, but are also symptoms of many other shoulder problems.

what are some exercises or things that can be done after rotator cuff surgery if you fell like the shoulder is freezing?

Therapy: Although i can give some suggestions, you should be actively involved in physical therapy and follow their guidlines.  I suggest a home pulley, using the good arm to help assist the operated shoulder with flexion.  Also doing wall climbs by using your fingers to climb up a wall. Make sure to let your surgeon know you are having difficulty.  Good luck.

Partial cuff tear: Watershed area of less blood supply contributes to fray. As does a poorer quality soft tissue.

Yes.: A shoulder sprain refers to a stretch or bruise to the ligaments that hold the shoulder together. A rotator cuff tear refers to a muscle that has been detached from its bony insertion.

or more years ago and now i'm getting some mild stiffness and severe burning pain. what do you think?

Hard to say: Many potential causes, I would encourage you to be seen.  Most common causes would be a recurrent rotator cuff problem or a cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve in the neck).  An exam and appropriate studies can likely reveal the cause.  Consider being seen.

symptoms: acute and now constant shoulder pain which lead to swelling in my hand, discolouration and weakness.  could this be a rotator cuff injury?

Maybe: The description of your symptoms is not a common presentation for a rotator cuff problem.  The first thing that comes to my mind with this description is a vascular issue.  I think of things like upper extremity deep venous thrombosis and thoracic outlet syndrome.  I would have this issue evaluated by a primary care provider soon.

i've been going to physical therapy for my rotator cuff for about 4 weeks. i've noticed some increase in my range of motion but still get bad shoulder pain. what should i do?

It depend: What the problem in your rotator cuff, if it inflamed may an injection of steroid will help.
If there is a tear in it may you surgery to fix it.

Muscle pain: Having to use left arm more due to rt shoulder  issues rhomboid muscle likely tender ./ overused   could get some stretches or massage lastly trigger point injection.

Get examined!: At age 55 your most common cause for this pain would still be 'impingement' ( or bursitis). Labral tears causing this pain are less likely unless associated with the biceps 'anchor'( SLAP) lesions -- but less likely in isolation in your age group.Osteoarthritis can cause pain in this distribution . AC joint arthritis can also cause pain when rotating arm towards chest ( adduction). See an ORS! GL!

: If you have pain and stiffness in your shoulder, have a physician examine you, and perform appropriate testing.  Some possibilities to be evaluated include thyroid and diabetic issues resulting in adhesive capsulitis.  A true rotator cuff tear should be assessed by an orthopedic surgeon.
