Here's some ideas: If you are depressed try this.  Write down your 5 best qualities.  Nice, smart etc.  Then look at your daily life and whether you are able to act in accord with those strengths.  If not, changes in your environment, relationships, personal views, etc may need to follow.  Stick to your strengths and don't devalue them.  Use them to cope.  If that isn't working find a therapist to help you use them.

Definitions: It may be very common to feel a wide range of bad feelings about things you think negative things about and aging is one in our culture today. It might (or not) qualify for Dx depending on symptom specifics. BTW, at nearly twice your age, I need to say you are not 'over the hill' (at least not my hill).  Search for things to read, but face-to-face may be the best way to get CBT and support.

Try Kelee meditation: I would recommend checking out kelee meditation (www.Thekelee.Org).  I have been doing this meditation for 7 years and it was very helpful in quieting the negative brain chatter associated with my own stress, anxiety and depression. Coping w/ depression: Mood regulators include sleep, healthy diet, exercise, and avoid alcohol and substances. Try to find an expressive outlet...talk to someone, journal, or art. Depression can often look like anger turned inward, so make an effort to be kind to yourself, less judgmental. Look for opportunities to build your confidence, or at least remind yourself of your strengths.

For severe depression medication and therapy work best.

For severe depression a combination of therapy and medication work best.
