One way leads to lymphocytes, the immune cells involved with adaptive immunity, which can learn to fight a foreign invader.  The other branch is myeloid, the cells are the source of pus, allergy and inflammation.  Immature cells can mean leukemia.  Flow cytometry test is used to identify the kind of immature cell.
