A member asked:

Can you tell me about immature white blood cells, lymphocytic or myeloid?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Source of cell.: WBCs are derived from a common stem cell, but early on in development they branch. One way leads to lymphocytes, the immune cells involved with adaptive immunity, which can learn to fight a foreign invader. The other branch is myeloid, the cells are the source of pus, allergy and inflammation. Immature cells can mean leukemia. Flow cytometry test is used to identify the kind of immature cell.
