No: It's never a good idea to use antibiotic without a doctor's advice. Besides there are better alternative in abx for treating UTI than penicillin- related drugs. She should see her doctor.

i am allergic to ceftin, cipro, macrobid, sulfa, penicillin, floxin and biaxin.  my doctor says i have an uti but she can't prescribe anything because of my allergies.  she says drink lots of water.    isn't there some antibiotic i can take?

Of course: The urine can be cultured to see what bacteria is in there, and which antibiotics can be used. If needed, an allergist can check for true allergies to antibiotics, and help select the safest one to use. If UTI symptoms are slight and they go away without antibiotics, that's ok... as long as a patient does close follow-up to check for recurrences or other bladder, kidney, vulvo-vaginal issues.

See doctor: First step is to have your urine tested, with a culture and sensitivity.  If you are infected, an antibiotic can be selected which is tolerated and not similar to penicillin.  Let your doctor clearly know your history.  Best to start ASAP.

Several choices: Sulfonamides (bactrim, septra) and flouroquinalones (cipro) are good choices.  Fyi- up to 90% of people who carry a diagnosis of penicillin allergy are not really penicillin allergic.  An allergist can test you for penicillin allergy.  A negative test could make your life lots easier.

Probably : Discuss with your doctor, usually it isn&#x27;t the first choice, there are other alternatives, and better be guided by antibiotics sensitivity of urine culture, rather than emperic treatment, your doctor would explain, good luck

Based on culture: A UTI in a man is unusual and often indicative of a urinary system abnormality that need to be evaluated by a urologist.  A culture should always be collected and antibiotics chosen based upon the culture result.  Doxy is a reasonable choice if the culture shows sensitivity to it.  Nitrofurantoin or Cefdinir would be common choices as well.

Hematuria: Blood in the urine may be do to a uti, but not necessarily. Would discuss your symptoms with your doctor and see if a further work up should be undertaken.

Ok to use cystex: It is O.K. to use cystex plus when you have urinary infection until you get your antibiotics. It helps with pain and may keep infection under control.

REACTIONS: There is cannot and will not take them. Many reactions are not truely allergic and will be tolerated to combat the infection if it is bad enough.

i'm 48 & self catheterising. suffer from regular uti. allergic to nearly all oral antibiotics. i'm very distressed.is there a vaccine against e. coli ?
