Jabs: Fleeting,often Sharp pains in that area of the chest frequently come from pinching of the nerves that run between the ribs. A deep breath may bring them on or make them more noticeable. They are more of a nuisance than anything serious,however if they persist or worsen,your physician will order any appropriate tests or xrays.

For example, muscle strain/sprain, cartilage inflammation, rib bruise or even fracture can occur with coughing. When the cough resolves, this will heal so see your doctor for cough treatment.

Chest pain: Chest pain can be a symptom of heart disease but may be may other things such as esophageal spasms, respiratory disorders (asthma, COPD, bronchitis, infections), and muscle problems to name a few.  It really depends on the clinical situation and other symptoms you may be having. Pain that lasts a few seconds is not likely to be serious but you should get it evaluated by your doctor.

Ask for pain pill.: I assume your doctor is suspecting something, since you will have mammogram in 2 days, just take some pain medications for few days until they know what's causing the pain.If the lump is large , you better schedule a biopsy after discussing with your doctor.In your case i would prefer a sonogram
