i suffered from a concussion 6 weeks ago but still feel a little foggy. is it alright to resume weight training?

Check with your doc: Usually after a minor concussion (i.e. no real loss of consciousness or if so, briefly) most people your age can bounce back to normal activities inside of a week.  However, if you've been off for 6 weeks that suggests to me that your incident may have been more serious.  Therefore, I suggest you check in with your doctor to get a clearance before returning to activities that could be risky.

It depends: If increased physical (or cognitive) activity leads to a return of symptoms you are not ready to resume these activities. I'm curious, how does one simultaneously engage in figure skating and rugby without, of course, transitioning to ice hockey?

Individual: Bicycling is a lot more dangerous than it seems, but it is overall an extremely gratifying and rewarding sport. If you can get yourself back on the bicycle, by all means try. The risk is there, but so is the reward!

Concussion effects: When your physician feels you have made a full recovery from a concussion, you should start with mild aerobic exercise, increasing progressively as tolerated.  Reducing calorie intake will not be enough.  Since you have experienced a mild brain injury, our recovery should be monitored by your physician or a physiatrist.

Possibly : A concussion typically causes feeling dazed, headaches, impaired balance and slowed thinking. The weight of an object is not the only variable. It depends on whether it just impacted your head/skull, or if it actually "jolted" your brain to the point of experiencing brain symptoms . Monitor to see if you have the above symptoms. If yes, then avoid mental and physical strain and seek medical care.

Brain swelling: Working out increases blood pressure and blood flow to brain, which may increase risk of swelling.  Rarely, it may cause rupture of a previously weakened blood vessel - potentially leading to brain bleed/ hemorrhage.

Wait: Until all symptoms resolve.  And when you restart, go slowly and build back up to full activity.

Post concussive : After a concussion it is not unusual to have some persistent headache, dizziness, vertigo or general malaise.  So long as the symptoms are getting better slowly, I wouldn't worry too much.  If increased activity worsens the symptoms, slow down and see if doing a little less helps improve your symptoms.  It may take 4-6 weeks to get back to normal. If you are getting worse, go see your doctor!!

Hours to days: Most concussion symptoms ease off in a matter of several hours. Less often they can persist for several days. And almost all concussions resolve in 2-3 months. If symptoms persist or worsen or if you are concerned, you should seek medical attention ASAP

Concussion: The length of the symptoms are really based on how severe the concussion was to the patient. In a mild concussion the symptoms can last only days and in the more severe case the symptoms they can last weeks to months.
