Well: The purpose of lifting , fitness etc is not to have pain.  If having pain, then you need to review what you are doing, see doctor(s) to diagnose and manage your condition (pcp, pt, ortho, sport med, chiropractor...).

Tendonitis: Weight lifting often causes strain injury, and repeated heavy weights can give you a stress-induced tendonitis. 
good mechanics for lifting (get guidance ), plus gradual increases in weights are essential to prevent. 
After injury, do not reinjure! Rest and ice, and avoid strain until better

Rest/Ice/Press/Elev8: You may have an injury to the biceps tendon if performing bicep curls. Pushing it may lead to an all out rupture. Take some time to rest the muscle. Minimize inflammation and swelling with ice and compression and elevation. Anti-inflammatory medications may help as well. Consider seeing a physician or therapist if the pain persists.

Use K-Tapes: Kinesio-tapes will support your elbow you are strengthening muscles which when they get strong will get shorter and stronger you need to give this routine a break and work with the opposite directional muscles eg if your routine is flexion use extension exercise and same time use k-tape to support these areas. Steam/sauna heat will relax tight elbow and allow stretch. Ktape cost $12.99.

i have been having elbow joint pain for several months now. i do weight lifting and assume that is the reason why, but the elbow os even sore on days when i dont excersize and sometimes shooting pain. shiuld i see the doctor?

Probably good idea: the site you are having pain is one where various inflammatory processes can be responsible. You could see if gentile heat would improve blood flow &amp; allow your system to heal, but pain between workouts point to a more chronic process. Shooting pain can also involve the nerves that pass through the area. An exam &amp; some therapy may be your best option.

what can i do about  elbow tendonitis from weightlifting?

Can you take Aspirin: The best solution to tendonitis is rest, ice and nsaids (non steroidal anti-inflammatories).
Also, if it is on the outside or inside of the elbow it could be characterized as golfer's elbow or tennis elbow and can ebenfit from a brace.
There is now NSAID in cream form -- this is called PENNSAID or voltaren; this is available by rx only though.

i have a vein moving around in my left elbow. it causes some sensitivity in my inner elbow. it is visible and causes some tingling sensations. it has gotten a little better since i have taken a 2-week break from weightlifting. how could i stop this?

Modify: If you are sure that weight-lifting is causing it, you will need to consider reducing the weight load or modifying your arm position.  The problem will not go away and likely get worse if you continue to do what you had been doing.  Check with a trainer to see what can be done. See doctor if problem persists.

Tendon or muscle: This may be related to an injured muscle or tendon within the shoulder. You should see a sports medicine physician to get a precise diagnosis and treatment plan.

Need more info: This could be anything from muscle strain to a tendonitis to a herniated disc. We would need more information. I would recommend having a physical exam from a physician face to face to clarify what is going on. Hold off on weightlifting until that time as this can aggravate some injuries. Be safe and i hope all is well with your arm.
