Probably good idea: the site you are having pain is one where various inflammatory processes can be responsible. You could see if gentile heat would improve blood flow & allow your system to heal, but pain between workouts point to a more chronic process. Shooting pain can also involve the nerves that pass through the area. An exam & some therapy may be your best option.

Yes: You need to find out what is wrong. If there is a chronic strain or inflammation of a tendon, you may be treated and referred for Physical or Occupational therapy to help you avoid techniques that cause the pain and allow you to lift weights without injury/pain.
