Cracking - need  inf: Cracking can suggest  movement of  tissues. This can be  bone slipping, tendons sliding or some other  movement. Which side of the ankle? Is it  both ankles or  one  ankle? Is there swelling also? Is the ankle  collapsing? Is there  pain when this  happens? Can you feel  anything when thsi  happens? Can it  be either active or  passive  motion? We  will need  more  information.

Misalignment: In my experience, when parts of the skeleton feel they need to pop or crack, you are misaligned and trying to literally adjust yourself. A visit with your doc will help figure out more details. A physical therapist can offer a great deal of useful advice, exercises, and therapies. Massage may help as can a good chiropractor.

Not leg length: this can be cartilage - there are different types of cartilage in the knee. This could be due to grinding of the kneecap- called chrondromalacia patella. In the knee there is also meniscus cartilage that can slip or be torn. Finally there is cartilage at the end of the bones of the knee that can be injured by arthritis like Rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. Your physician will help clarify

The : The injury you had at age two is unlikely to be causing your symptoms now.  It is also unlikely you had arthritis at age 12, unless you had a condition called jra.  If you truly have fluid in your knees, then you should see a rheumatologist or an orthopaedic surgeon.   Pain with weather changes is common in people with arthritis.  Cracking in the knees is usually not serious.

When we: exercise...especially without the proper "stretching" og our muscles prior to the exercise we "break" microscopic blood vessels and they bleed a very very small amount of blood! This is like an INTERNAL bruise!!! We call it a "charliehorse" or STIFFNESS!
Your joints are YOUNG and have CARTILAGE which is LIVING TISSUE!!  Same rules apply!

Nitrogen: There are a number of theories for this, which is a phenomena similar to "cracking" your knuckles.  One of the more popular theories is that nitrogen gas, which is normally dissolved in the blood will collect in a joint and cause local pressure and pain.  Subsequent "cracking" of the area causes a release if this gas and relieves the pain.

Joint cracking: Cracking of joints is common and probably nothing to worry about. Ligaments can make these noises as they get tight rapidly when the joint is moving. Crackimg may be due to a tendon snapping over or around the joint. Or nitrogen bubbles in the fluid inside the joint may be rapidly brought into or out of solution when the joints are moving.
