Bug bites: Try benadryl and some ibuprofen. Also apply topical cool compress. Some topical cortisone may help too. If fever, not improving or worsening redness, swellng or SOB get checked.

Sounds infected: Keep area nice and clean with warm water and soap.  You need to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible and likely get either some antibiotics or some type of drainage procedure.  But you need to get this done now.

Sounds like it: Sounds like cellulitis. Bacteria which cause cellulitis need a portal of entry into the skin, in yourcp case it was likely the bug bite. Keflex is an appropriate drug to treat this. If the redness and swelling don't decrease over the next day or two, consider calling the np again.

Insect bite: Hi Tracy, 
the initial stage for a bite will be supportive treatment, which are things we can do to lessen you symptoms.
you can try icing it, take ibuprofen for pain.
this should get better in a few days, but if it does not or if you have fever, develop an abscess, you should see a doctor to see if you may have infection that requires antibiotics.

i have bug bites appearing, they are round about 2 inches or larger with a visible puncture in the center, red, swollen and warm to the touch. sometimes it is itchy. i havent seen any mosquitos or visible bugs, what may have cause this?

: What is described may be an allergic reaction, not "bug bites".  See a dermatologist for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

See doctor: Have it evaluated right away, assuming no trauma, he is either suffering from a clot to the leg or an infection called cellulitis. Either way he needs prompt attention.

Staph Infection: Every single patient of mine in the past five years who thought they had a spider bite had the dangerous drug resistant form of a staph infection.  This infection can be deadly.  An infected area that is warm and has pus needs to be seen and treated urgently.

Trigeminal Nerve: The trigeminal nerve (Cranial Nerve V) trifurcates into 3 sensory divisons- ophthalmic, maxillary, and mandibular nerves.  Your symptoms would involve the maxillary division.  There are many causes (trauma, infectious- herpes zoster, upper tooth disease...).

Insect: Possibilities include wasp or hornet sting or a spider bite. If there is swelling,spreading redness and warmth,antibiotics and possible antihistamine are indicated and,thus, a visit to your physician is advisable.
