Body temp: The cold cloth will more likely cazuse chills .
You especially do not want to put a child in a cold bath to get a fever down.. It could send them in shock.

Cysts: Cysts have a central core or capsule and if the cyst is only drained or the capsule is not completely removed, the contents of the cyst will fill back up and the cyst will recur.

question. ive read a lot of different information. is soap okay on the anus; or around it? i use a wash cloth and clean the area with soap, but i feel like its not all the way clean. theres some odor. do i just use warm water instead?

Accepted Answer

: Common bath soap is fine. I would avoid soaps with imbedded fragrance as these can trigger sensitivity reactions. Any soap film not completely rinsed with water can trigger itching.

Accepted Answer

Until scab heals.: "A moist wound is a healing wound", as the axiom goes. There should be no harm in applying a warm (not hot!) wet compress to a scab for the entire time that the scab is present. In other words, you can do it until the scab falls off. Normally, a skin tear or abrasion will heal in less than 1 week. If you have medical problems like diabetes, healing can be delayed. TTYD or use HealthTap Prime. GL.

Water: Most burns do best if you run undr cool water. I would not recommend ice.

Accepted Answer

No pressing: You've done the right things so far causing the abscess to drain. Pressing on it further could result in damage to the surrounding tissue causing the underlying infection to spread. Rule of thumb here is that an abscess (boil) adequately drained can rely on the body's healing processes to clean up the mess. If it continues to drain and/or show signs of continued infection see your doctor.

what is the difference in results of using a clay heat pack for knee stiffness v.s. using a warm cloth bag of rice is one better than the other?

Both do the job but: Clay one may get too hot & cause burn. Clay's advantage, however, is that it retains heat longer than bag of rice does. Just have to be careful not to leave either one on too long (especially the clay one). Wrapping towel around it should help.

my daughter is 4 1/2 months old and has a watery one eye. the doc at her 8 week check up gave her antibiotic eye drops but its not clearing. i massage the corners and wipe it with warm cloth but they still get crusty?

Follow up with dr: antibiotic eyedrops should work well to treat eye infections. In some kids, an eye ointment may be better as it is thicker and stays in the eye. I would follow up with your physician

Time to see the doc!: Hot compresses can sometimes bring an infected sebaceous cyst to a "head" where it can drain.  But if you've tried that and it is getting worse, then you need to go see your doctor who may need to drain it surgically or treat you with medication.  If first aid doesn't quickly do the trick, then bite the bullet and see your doc;  you can save yourself a lot of grief.

i've tried to use a warm cloth daily, but the stye under my eyelid will not go away. any other suggestions?

Stye under eyelid: if this continues to be a problem may need an antibioitc eye drop called in
