i have been to the gp and have sprain where my metatarsal joins my foot.i go on holiday tomorrow so need to walk around.should i get crutches?

If just a sprain.: I am not sure of the sprained area as described. It sounds as though the sprain may involve either the metatarsal phalangeal or the metatarsal tarsal areas. Either way, if you feel you might need some relief from weight-bearing, crutches just may be the ticket. Depending on the severity of the sprain, a cam walking boot may also be appropriate. The best advice is to not over do it.

Ankle swelling: I would obtain an x ray in case there is a fracture in the ankle or fifth metatarsal area. Please follow up with your physician for further evaluation.

fell 5 months ago & urgent care dxd sprained lfoot. x-ray = no breaks. still very painful on & off standing, walking, sitting, sleeping. cant stand on my toes from pain, but no swelling. urgent care or ortho?

Ortho: I k ow you want to get to the bottom of this ASAP, but an urgent care center will just be a waste of time and money. They'll end up telling you for something that's gone on this long and you're still having as much pain, you need to see ortho. Call tomorrow and get an appointment this coming week.

See your surgeon: Have your right ankle checked out.  May benefit from strapping or ankle bracing.

X-rays: If your x-ray is normal, then it sits usually ok to begin weight bearing, especially if you have a brace to stabilize the ankle. Therapy will get you back to normal strength the fastest.

i got told that i had a grade 1 medial sprain. i twisted it again when walking. my kne is grinding  and the pain is getting very bad. what do i do?

Orthopaedic visit: You need to see an orthopaedic surgeon. You are too young to have arthritis, but may have a cartilage tear. It the mean time, use ice on the knee and take otc nsaid's for the pain/inflammation. An off the shelf knee brace may also be helpful.

Stress fracture: It sounds like a stress fracture and that you may have a right achilles. This is putting to much force on the forefoot and causing gradual injury to the bones. 1st treatment is rest, then proper shoe gear and a stretching regimen. Best to see a foot and ankle orthopedist to confirm the diagnosis and start proper treatment.

Gentle pressure: Be aware that if the ligaments are totally ruptured, ambulation is not recommended.  The ligament tear (sprain) in varying degrees.  If the ankle is unstable, the ligaments may be totally separated, in that case you do don't want to put pressure on the ankle.

More pain: If it is only a simple sprained ankle, walking on it too soon will only make the swelling worse and continue the pain.  Sometimes a sprained ankle has significant ligament tears that can really make things worse if you walk on them too early, as they may not heal.  Make sure to get an evaluation by an orthopedist.

If no Fx: No fx ; minimal pain, it seems as though it would b ok, ; assuming u have been evaluated by an ortho or podiatrist. If very painful use aids, as cane or crutches. If in doubt ask ur treating physician.
