No, not by itself: Average person stops breathing/obstructs up to 5 times per hour. Mild apnea is 5-15 x per hour; moderate &gt;15; and severe &gt;30. You are proper age. If other risk factors or symptoms present, seek referral from your pcp for sleep study to determine status.

getting over cold with thick post nasal drip at night. the past few nights i remember waking up multiple time s to breath. can drip cause temp apnea?

Gagging: The drip causes obstruction the breathing through the nose and people breath through the mouth. The back of the throat dries up and people can wake up like gagging and the quality is similar to how people with sleep apnea wake up, but no, it is not real sleep apnea. Drink fluids to loosen the secretion and you may need other meds. See you doctor for treatment.

during my sleep, i felt like i couldn't breathe, i felt like i was halfway between my dream and waking up. is this sleep apnea, and how do i cure it?

Go see you doctor: Sleep disorders need to be evaluated.  A thorough history is needed and perhaps a sleep study.  Do you have daytime sleepiness?  Does your partner ever see you stop breathing when you sleep?  Do you have trouble losing weight?   Do you snore?  Problems with concentration?  Memory?   Your doctor can piece it together and order the needed testing.  Good luck.

haven't slept thru the night without waking (2x+) in 20 years. sleep study did not show apnea, take anxiety meds, & am hypothyroid,  what can this be?

Thyroid?: Check with your endocrinologist on status of your thyroid. Wondering if medication adjustment is warranted.

Get Sleep Study: It is hard to say  what is going on just based on this description. Even though you deny, you probably have narcolepsy. You will need an overnight sleep study with eeg monitoring. This is usually done in a sleep lab.

Groggy &amp; irritable : Wheather you have sleep apnea or not  it is good to see your doctor for complete physical exam &amp;  blood  work ,  if your doctor suspect sleep apnea he will send you to a sleep study lab where you spend the night &amp; you get monitered &amp; recorded through the night while you are asleep. UARS: In patients that snore and have frequent awakenings with nonrestorative sleep, the diagnosis is often uars (upper airway resistance syndrome) which is in the similar spectrum to apnea.  Often devices such as snore guards (one such is snore rx) and treating nasal congestion (theraventsnoring, breathright, nasal sprays) can be helpful.  See sleep specialist if not getting answers you need.

Hiatal hernia: It's possible. With Capp you are likely swallowing a great deal of forced air which can make you gassy and bloated but also force  the stochastic up through the diaphragm and create hiatal hernia and reflux. May want to discuss with doctor pressure adjustment, biPAP, HOB elevation and anti-relic meds as well as weight loss.

sleep apnea a prime consideration. If not that, then peri-menopausal hormonal disturbance would be my second thought. Additional hormonal considerations would be catecholamine (adrenaline) factors.  Cardiac conditions should also be considered (paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea).  Variant asthma a more remote possiblity.

ive had sinus issues for years, headache, congestion and drainage. could this be causing sleep apnea? im 34 m not over weight. wife says i snore and ive been waking up gasping. i also have pacs, if i did hv sleep apnea could it cause them? thanks?

: Cardiac arrhythmias can occur with sleep apnea during low oxygen saturation. A sleep study combined with cardiac monitoring would be important testing for you. Discuss with your MD.
