Hard to advise you..: I would like to hear the experience of the other psychiatrists on this --viibryd has great potential to help with anxiety, ocd, as well as depression, but it can be tough-going at first because of GI side effects. I&#x27;ve had patients feel that the drug was helping significantly, but they could not get through the nausea, but i know that there are people who can get past it. It can&#x27;t hurt to try it!

Yes, a lot.: It is one of the newer SSRIs in the market and has been very effective for depression with anxiety. If your insurance does not cover it and it is helpful, you could get a prior authorization. The company that makes Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) also has a month trial offer for free , so you could try it before you get  your insurance to pay for it.

It could be.: My understanding is that it is very good for anxiety disorders, including OCD. However, I have not had much luck with it so far; it can have annoying initial side effects (mainly nausea) that can be tough to get past. So far, no one I have started on it has stayed with it, either because of side effects or lack of effectiveness.

Yes: Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant like prozac, paxil, celexa, lexapro, and zoloft. The entire class of medications is effective against both depression as well as anxiety. Of note, it takes 2-3 weeks for a partial effect, 4-6 weeks for a full effect, so you may not feel better or even feel worse for 1-2 weeks before the medication kicks in

For Major Depression: For MDD, but as you may know - off label use of all psych meds has become the norm. I find it very troubling, but many seem completely acceptable. I also feel less comfortable in direct relation to the newness of the drug (lack of data) and this is new. I firmly believe that w/out at least including a reliable 'good fit'  therapist to help learn skills for managing life - we miss the boat.
