Maybe?: The reason you hear so many different treatments for toenail fungus is because there is no perfect, sure-fire treatment that works 100% of the time. I've seen vaporub work, as well as other natural oil remedies. You can also try laser therapy, antifungal creams, paints, or even oral medications if your doctor deems you healthy enough to take them.

Yes and no.: All three of those can help to some extent but are not what you would call effective except in all but the most minimal of fungal infections.  Since a fungal nail infection is slow growing, the above remedies can be tried.  After about three months, if no improvement is noted, stronger remedies should be tried under a doctors supervision.

Foot fungus: The description of red-purple blotches on top is not characteristic of a foot fungus.  It sounds more like a circulation issue rather than a skin problem.  Foot fungus is usually manifested as scaly red spots, often between the toes or in the arch of the foot.

Lamisil: is an excellent anti-fungal antibiotic. I agree that a fungal culture will identify the offending fungus; however, it will not cure the infection. The redness may be due to either a second infection which is non fungal or a reaction to the Lamisil. Please consult treating podiatrist and figure on 2-4 weeks of therapy, depending on the severity of your case.

Likely mild allergy: Most of the these little rashes are related to having a mild 'contact dermatitis', essentially something that is causing a mild allergic reaction or irritation.  Sometimes it can be a form of eczema, which is just skin inflammation.  These are very difficult to identify the cause unless you notice a pattern to soap, lotion, etc. You can use an otc cortisone cream to help if desired. Not dangerous.

Several ways: Are you referring to fingernails?  If so, over exposure to water, nail damage, manicures as well.
Toenail fungus can occur from dampness (wearing boots constantly), nail damage, genetics (autosomal dominant).
