SHOULD BE SHRINKING: Seromas and hematomas can develop in the abdominal wall space that the tissue which protrudes through the hernia defect creates.  The serum or blood should slowly regress with time, but should probably be gone within 6 months.  If a persistent collection is troublesome, it may have to be removed.  Speak to your surgeon. Hard to answer. : The reason you could be sick and still in a lot of pain could be due to any number of reasons, some related to the surgeries and some not. The differential for vague symptoms of "sick" and "pain" is wide, and unfortunately can't be answered simply here. You could be having a complication of surgery, or you could be having a new or separate process going on. Return to your surgeon for work-up.

Size: A "wide mouth" ventral hernia is not an accepted term for a hernia in the medical field. However, i assume that your physician was trying to describe your hernia defect as being large. Hernias come in all shapes, sizes and positions. The wider a hernia defect, the more difficult it is to repair and the more likely it is for the repair to fail over time.

YES: it is possible that this is another hernia along the incision line or an accumulation of fluid. A baseball sized "lump" requires further evaluation by your surgeon.

See a doctor: Very hard to tell here without a physical examination. Are you describing hardness around the surgical sites? If mesh was used for the hernia surgery then deep scarring firmness can be felt for up to 6 months. Are you describing gas pressure? Diet changes & avoid fatty foods for a while. See your doctor or surgeon for an exam for more help.

Most likey: It's only been a few days since your surgery and most people will have discomfort for a week or two after ventral hernia repair.  Binder support helps sometimes.  When is your scheduled postoperative check? Your surgeon is your best resource at this point - call if you have concerns.
