Not likely: There are no studies focused strictly on this issue, but none of the side effects of these medications list it as a problem or complication. However, the underlying condition under which these medications are given (such as kidney disease, certain anemias, etc.) may predispose someone to ovulation or conception problems. Associated conditions may be the problem, not these medications.

Venofer injections: You're getting Venofer (V) due to your being severely iron deficient.The best person to ask the question of why you are receiving V is from the physician (P) who is ordering for you. That P knows you best of all and can answer your questions much better than any one here. The P knows your iron saturation, your ferritin level and the reason for your getting all those doses of it. Yes: Presuming you are taking the HCG for fertility treatment and your doctor is ok with you getting pregnant at this time, there is no reason not take iron supplements.

Need more info: Venofer--I think you are referring to intravenous iron--should not cause swelling.  You should be in touch with the doctor who gave you the medication for a check-up.

No: Venofer is an IV iron supplement, ferritin is a blood test used to estimate iron stores. I suspect that you mean ferrlecit, (sodium ferric gluconate) which is another form of IV iron. Both of these drugs work well in general. Specific patients may differs. Discuss with your doctors.

See doc: Iron deficiency is from lack of intake, excess loss (e.g. Bleeding from urinary, gyn, GI sources), and poor absorption, e.g. Celiac sprue (true autoimmune inflammatory reaction  to proteins in wheat, rye, barley, spelt, some other grains), inflammatory bowel disease, such as crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, or some occult source of blood loss.

High-risk pg: You obviously are having a complicated pregnancy,  How stressful!  However, any treatments used are designed to be sure that you and your baby have the best possible chance.  Do you trust you doctor?  You can get a second opinion in your country or on Healthtap Concierge. What's going on?: If you have an elevated serum ferritin, then you are almost certainly not iron-deficient and should not be receiving injectable iron. It can kill you. I am not joking. Please get with someone who knows how to work up an anemia properly. I'm betting on one of the milder thalassemia variants, but there are literally hundreds of other possibilities.

is this a sign of blood cancer? i am 56 and get venofer iv monthly.
