No: Visible veins on the side of the head is not bad. When blood does not drain from the head as fast as it is arriving, veins can become engorged and appear enlarged. As long as they are not painful, tender or bleeding there is little to worry about.

Yes: Visible veins on the side of the forehead are normal branches of the superficial temporal vein.  They are noticeable on people with pale skin and also those without very much subcutaneous fat in that region. They are normal and require no therapy.

i have a throbbing vein on the left side of  my forehead, what are the causes, should i be worried?

Likely tension headache: Most of the time when you have a throbbing area near the temple it's likely due to a migraine or tension headache. However, if the temple is very tender to the touch then we will be worried about something called giant cell arteritis. Are you having any numbness in the jaw or face? Are you having any issues with your vision?
If you don't have the symptoms above then I would just recommend watching this and hopefully it will result soon.

In The Wrong Vein: If that's the only problem you have at your age, you're Golden! This is fairly common, especially in light-skinned people of advancing age as the skin thins in various areas. Maybe you just lost enough weight for them to show. Now, don't go binging on Haggen-Dazs, it probably won't work. Just a part of the life process. But if they become more and more prominent, or bulge, see your doctor.

hello the veins on the right side of my neck are really visible and it looks sickly. it happens when i smile, and my forehead vein sticks out. help!?

Unique to you!: The appearance of prominent veins around the face is largely related to your anatomy. They are more apparent in thin folks and frequent exercises. I suspect when you smile  the contracting muscles alter the venous blood flow/pressure and the bulging is more apparent. This is pretty common. Most everyone has come to accept this is part of unique you...maybe you can, too. Surgery sometimes an option

In the face, the veins decrease with standing and increase with lying down.  Straining or laughing increase the the pressure in the chest which can increase the size of the facial veins.
