Maybe: Gravity, position, standing on your legs can cause a lot of the vein swelling.  If you become painful orbecome excessively swollen you may want to get examined for possible varicose veins or blood clots.

Venous insufficiency: Sounds like varicose veins and venous insufficiency with sluggish blood return. See your doctor!

the veins on the top of one of my feet are suddenly bulging and slightly uncomfortable (24 hours ago). no swelling or significant pain. is thrombophlebitis a concern?

Accepted Answer

: It is almost never or very rare to have thrombophlebitis bilaterally at the same time. Your foot problem could be due to your new footwear or an unusual body position on the day before. You can apply ice pad locally and raise your feet up when sitting or lying down as much as possible in the next 1-2 days.  See your doctor if symptom persists or get worse by Monday. Good luck.

Bulging veins: Prominent ("bulging") veins is normal and almost never a sign of a health problem. Veins tend to be more prominent toward the end of the day. This is nothing to worry about, but if you remain concerned, discuss with your personal physician.

how do compression stocking help with achy legs? just got some today, i'm in rt school and my veins bulge out of one of my legs now from being on feet

By compressing veins: &amp; potentially decreasing edema (local ↑ in extracellular water). However, important to not have tourniquet band/effect at top which will undo any benefit; best support from waist/garter belt. Also best to keep moving. Movement is what powers the venous pump so that blood stair-steps through venous valves back to heart, rather than stretching out the veins resulting in varicose veins over time.

hi i have one leg that has pitted  for a long while, i went to my doctor and had surgery to remove a vein from my groin to my foot this hasn't helped ?

Like a traffic jam.: It sounds like you are describing pitting edema. Removing a major vein from the leg, will force the blood circulating through the leg and returning to the heart to return through fewer veins. This puts a load on the remaining veins which can lead to swelling unless steps are taken to forestall it. Typically gradient compression hose are prescribed. You might want to consult with a specialist.

my daughter 14 has two boney like lumps on her foot one on top of her foot and one in her side. she said that's new for her. she has visible, bulging , spider veins along with cold feet and occasional leg pain. what shall i do?

: I would recommend seeing an orthopedic doctor right away. Could be nothing but an X-ray would answer all concerns

: Your concern is real. You are seeing early signs of edema in the leg. Many causes for this. Best to see family doctor   FYI. No “real” swelling is still swelling.  Any swelling is still swelling.

both feet and ankles turn red and have a burning itchy sensation mainly around my toes. the veins also bulge out and it happens mostly when standing in one spot for a while and more in the evening/night. i also sometimes feel numbness. any ideas?

Red itchy toes: May be tinea pedis AKA ATHLETES FOOT.  Goggle and compare pictures.  Then show to your Dr. or send us picture.
