how can we treat vein valves which are not working properly?

It depends on ...: Where the vein is. We generally don't treat vein valves in saphenous and varicose veins. Varicose veins are so twisted and enlarge that even if we did fix the valves, it wouldn't do any good. Although there are vein procedures for saphenous valves, it generally works at least as well to perform a thermal, surgical or chemical ablation  of the vein and remove it. Deep vein valve repair can be done.

how do you tell the difference between dvt and pain from saphenous vein valve not working? achy throbbing in l calf.  better walking worse sitting.

Accepted Answer

Difficult to tell: DVT can cause pain or be completely painless.
Saphenous vein insufficiency could be caused by DVT (called post-thrombotic syndrome).
Therefore any pain or swelling should be investigated with an ultrasound to rule out DVT.
If patient already has an established chronic DVT, the pain is likely caused by insufficient valves ( post-thrombotic syndrome)

Accepted Answer

Yes: You chronic venous insufficiency by history. You are at increased risk for pulmonary embolism. You should be evaluated for DVT. This can be done non-invasively with an venous ultrasound. Because of you symptoms, I would see a physician as soon as you can.

Not to worry.: The malfunctioning valve probably has no relationship to the bruise and throbbing in your leg. The bruise is secondary to injuring the area and having some localized bleeding.  This would also explain the throbbing.  Heat to the area and tylenol (acetaminophen) should help.  Malfunctioning (refluxing) valves can lead to venous insufficiency.  You should see a vein specialist.

Accepted Answer

Due to something els: You may have pelvic venous obstruction that would be made worse by support stockings and sitting. You may not be able to elevate you legs high enough without being bed to give relief. A venous ultrasound which usually looks at the legs would not necessarily diagnose your problem. You should consult a physician who specializes in venous diseases.

Vein Valves.: Most but not all veins have one way valves to aid in pushing the low pressure venous blood back to the heart.  If a venous valve becomes defective then this could lead to a multitude of problems depending on the location of the valves.  For example, a defective valve in the superficial system could lead to varicose and spider veins.  Deep venous  valve malfunction could lead to chronic swelling.

No: Congenital heart disease of all types is uncommon and has multiple causes, many of which are not fully understood. The development of the heart is very complex process that is usually complete by the 12th week of pregnancy. Ultimately all defects result from a problem during that developmental process.

hi.. i had dvt in my right tight  2.5 yrs ago.. i assumed it damaged the valve in my vein.. can the valve be repaired..

Proper nutrition: Valves are lined by cells which make up the endothelium. There is mounting evidence that a diet with large amounts of vegetables and fruits may help repair endothelial damage. If you have any varicose veins, skin changes and/or ulcers associated with venous valvular damage, there are surgical procedures that may be tried. The operations are demanding and may not always give desired outcomes.

Vein Valves: Arteries do not have valves and not all veins have valves.  Veins that do have valves do have one way valves.

81 year old almost completely blocked aortic valve and vein near the bottom of the heart. normal wall motion, ef 57 am i a surgical canidate? i will see a surgeon and so nervous. cath showed valve blockage, echo showed moderate blockage after cath?

: Would need to see you and the studies to be able to help. Discuss your worries with the Surgeon. get a good assessment of risks and benefits and then decide if you want to follow their advice.
