i have tooth pain and was prescribed tylenol #3 for the pain. i am also prescribed 10mg valium. is it safe for me to take a valium now and then a tylenol #3 about 4 hours later before bed?

Yes, within limits : Using these together is okay as long as the tylenol (acetaminophen) is plain tylenol (acetaminophen) -- without additional CNS depressants (like codeine, etc) in it.   Valium can made you feel sleepy and dizzy. Recommended maximum dose of tylenol (acetaminophen) over a 24 hour period is four grams (4000 mg) or eight extra-strength pills. Regular strength tylenol (acetaminophen) = 325mg/pill; extra strength = 500mg/pill.  Don't drink alcohol with this.

Yes: There is no known cross reactivities between the two drugs. You can take them both as directed simultaneously.

: The Tylenol PM has Benadryl in it that can cause sedation. It is not a good idea to mix that with another medicine that can be sedating, like Valium. You could end up so sedated that your breathing slows to dangerous levels. You should call your doctor if you are having a lot of insomnia. Good luck to you!

i did not realize until tonight (january 11th) having drinks with a friend that the half life of valium is so long.

For future: For future reference , it is a good idea to avoid mixing alcohol with other drugs including antibiotics, hydrocodone, and promethezine. You can't be certain when you will need the meds for nausea or pain and should not mix them on top of alcohol either.

norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) & valium prescribed after acdf for pain or spasms.  after 10 days none present.  only have cough & intermittent numbness.  is it ok to stop meds?

Good for you: Glad to hear acdf (cervical spine surgery) has worked out for you with no pain or spasms for 10 days. At 10 days out, valium & Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) would be used as needed. If there is no pain, insomnia, anxiety or spasms, there is no good reason to take these. Persistent cough, numbness, difficulty swallowing should be reported to the spine surgeon.

dislocated 1st rib prescribed 2 weeks 10/325 norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) twice daily and 10mg valium once daily! are these safe to together? will i need to wean off valium?

Talk to your doctor : This is ok short term.  Talk to your doctor about weaning valium. The dose needs to stay low and short term use only (less than 1-2 months). An escalation of dose or long term use would not be appropriate and place you at risk for addiction to these medications. Do not combine with any alcohol or other medication.  Don't drive if drowsy. Always talk to your doctor before any med changes. Bst wishs

i'm having a lower back molar extracted w/premeds of ultracet, (tramdol and acetaminophen) 10mg valium, novacaine, & nitrous oxide. can i also take my prescription 15mg oxezapam?

NO: Please discuss your medications with your primary care physician and your dentist.  For sure you should not be using 2 benzodiazepines at the same time (the Oxazepam and valium).   Select one only if you feel you need this.
